Tehran, YJC. Researcher reviews prominent Islamic analysts on gender inequality.

Head of Women and Family Research Center of the Qom Seminary of Religious Studies speaking in a meeting called "Woman in Tabatabaei’s Thought” said "[Muhammad Husayn] Tabatabaei believes that the main cause of women’s underprivilegedness is male injustice; while [Morteza] Motahari believes that the main reason for women’s lower privileges is ignorance, not injustice.”

Mohammad Reza Zibaeenejad added that Tabatabaei arranges the concerned topics into a list which goes as the following:

1.      Equality of women and men in terms of humanity and values

2.      Woman as completing man

3.      Genetic distinctions in body and soul

4.      Functional distinctions (difference in position and role)

5.      Fair distinctions in rights and responsibilities

6.      Nature as the foundation of the family structure and male-female legal status

7.      The need for ethical vibe to prevail over family relations

8.      Woman’s particular attachment to the family

He further stated "In answer to the question why women’s circumstances are much more undesirable in Islamic societies compared to other places such as Western societies, Tabatabaei maintains that leaders’ inadequacy and incorrect education are the main reasons responsible for such a pitiable state. He holds that the Islamic ruler has to consider obligatory laws as needed where permissible, without claiming canonization.”
