UNESCO chief agrees to Ferdowsi World Awards

Tehran, YJC. Bokova has given the green light to Iran to launch an annual global prize on Persian culture and literature.

Iran’s Head of Global Memory Committee said that UNESCO Director General has agreed to Iran’s proposal of Ferdowsi World Awards.

Reza Salehi Amiri in interview with Mehr News Agency said "It has been agreed that an expert committee will soon be introduced to Iran by Mrs. Bokova to investigate into how the awards are going to be held.”

He said that if passed by UNESCO, the awards will be held every year to appreciate the efforts of those who have helped Persian culture and literature worldwide.

Iran’s initiative for the Ferdosi Global Awards was introduced to UNESCO in 2009 via the National Library and Archives Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Amiri further stated that on her visit to Iran, Irina Bokova also unveiled the historical maps kept by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
