Iran, Armenia top security officials discuss closer ties

TEHRAN, Jun 19 - Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani and the Armenian national security adviser exchanged views about a host of issues, including ways to boost security cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

Iran, Armenia top security officials discuss closer tiesTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 10th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues in Russia’s southern city of Ufa, on Tuesday.

During the session, the Iranian and Armenian officials discussed issues of mutual interest, including cooperation in security, political and economic areas.

The two top security officials hailed the close relations between Yerevan and Tehran and emphasized that third countries cannot negatively affect the ties.

Shamkhani has attended the summit of security officials in Ufa at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Nikolai Patrushev.

Delegations from about a hundred of world nations were expected to take part in gathering, underway from June 18 to 20.

The forum has been held regularly by the Russian Security Council in one of the cities of Russia each year. The meetings have been previously held in the cities of Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, Kazan, Ulan-Ude, Grozny, the Tver region, and twice in Sochi.

Last year’s conference in Sochi was attended by delegates from 118 countries and three delegations from the UN bodies.
