Tehran, YJC. -- The growing wave of terrorism in Iraq comes in reaction to the failure of certain groups in the recent general elections in the country, said the Iranian president Hassan Rouhani.
"Whoever making such a huge mistake (should know) that the failure in elections cannot be compensated by killing people, Rouhani said at a press conference in Tehran on Saturday.

President Rouhani once again condemned terrorist attacks by the members of Islamic State in Iraq and Levant describing it as major security challenge in the region.

"We have no choice but countering terrorism. We have very close and cordial ties with Iraq. If the Iraqi government asks for help, we will review the (request). So far, we have not received any such appeal. But we are ready to help Iraq (to fight terrorism) in the framework of international regulations and at the official request of the Iraqi government,” said Rouhani emphasizing that Iraq is capable of resolving the problem.

Rouhani said there is no doubt that certain foreign states arm and fund terrorist groups. The Iranian president also warned that such terrorist groups will scourge their sponsors in future. He also said Tehran will give a crushing response to any terrorist groups attempting to approach Iranian borders.

On June 10, Iraq’s northern Nineveh Province fell into the hands of militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The Takfiri (extremist terrorists’) attacks have reportedly forced more than half a million people in and around Mosul, the capital of Nineveh Province, to flee their homes.

Takfiri militants have vowed to march toward the capital, Baghdad.

Takfiri groups are reportedly entering Iraq from neighboring Syria and Saudi Arabia to undermine security in the country.
