TEHRAN, YJC. -- US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has denied accusations that Washington is holding unilateral talks with the Taliban.
Speaking to reporters in Kabul on Monday, Hagel also signaled Washington’s readiness to support proposals on defusing tensions in Afghanistan.

Late last week, Afghan President Hamid Karzai blamed the US for colluding with the Taliban.

He said that the US and the Taliban are allegedly in separate talks in Qatar to clinch an armistice agreement.

Karzai says Taliban 'in service to America' while US denies it has resumed talks with Taliban

A representative of the US administration has denied information that the US has resumed talks with the Taliban.

He added, however, that the US does not rule out new talks with the Taliban, because it may help stabilization in Afghanistan.

The talks between the US and Taliban were interrupted about a year ago. The information that they have allegedly resumed came several days ago from Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai.

In Mr. Karzai’s opinion, the fact that that the US is trying to persuade Afghans that life in Afghanistan will worsen after the withdrawal of US forces in 2014 is only playing into the hands of Taliban.
