Tehran, YJC. Lawmaker says Tehran Municipality’s action in separating its female employees is worthy of appreciation.
Parliament member Bijan Nobaveh who was speaking in reaction
to the usage of the term "gender segregation” for what Mayor Mohammad Baqer
Qalibaf applied to his offices in separating female employees from males said "Using
the term ‘gender separation’ for the really valuable measure in giving women
job promotions is a faulty one.”
"I believe that the action has to be called appreciation and
respect in creating a suitable atmosphere. Every one goes to her own atmosphere
according to her personality,” the lawmaker added.
He further stated "Where women can have an appropriate
environment it must be created for them. In a secure atmosphere women will work
more peacefully. They will be able to preserve their hijab better. So it is a
duty on us to do that.”
"Those who talk about such issues are sure to mean something
in particular. Even the Western countries there is no such talk. Respecting gentlemen
and ladies in its place is one hundred percent part of the law. It is a pity
that some respond to the issue not logically but politically,” Nobaveh stated.
Mayor Qalibaf has recently driven female employees of the
Municipality away from their former positions and promoted them to positions
where they would be accompanied only by female coworkers. This has called a lot
of controversy among different political groups.
