Twelve Ukrainian servicemen laid down arms and crossed the border with Russia, an official of the Rostov regional branch of the Federal Security Service (FSB) border service told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
"Several servicemen [from Ukrainian military forces] laid down arms and crossed the border to Russia at checkpoint Gukovo. We are looking into reasons why they had done so," the FSB border service official said, noting that this event had happened on Saturday.
These Ukrainian servicemen served in the 72nd motor rifle brigade, he said.
