Tehran, YJC. National security committee member rejects recent Rafsanjani statements on Iran approving the protocol are legally void.

Mansour Haqiqatpour, Member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, in answer to whether Iran will approve the additional protocol in line with its nuclear negotiations with the West said Tuesday "If the Western parties agree to follow our national interests we may put the additional on agenda at the Majlis.”

Pointing to Head of Expediency Discernment Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani’s recent statements he said that the ayatollah cannot speak on behalf of the Majlis.

"The Majlis is the only organization that can represent Iran on whether to accept or reject the additional protocol,” he asserted.

Meeting Finland’s Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja in Tehran, Hashemi had said on Monday that Tehran would like to approve the additional protocol simultaneous with a move from the Western negotiators to remove their economic sanctions on the country.

Haqiqatpour further stated that the additional protocol cannot be decided upon at the present time, "Because we need to see what actions the Western side takes.”
