Majid Takht-e Ravanchi, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations in New York, addressed an extraordinary meeting of the Ambassadors of the Non-Aligned Movement on Wednesday, referring to the hostile and provocative nature of US policy toward Cuba. He stated: The Islamic Republic of Iran declares its firm support and solidarity with the people and government of Cuba in the fight against US actions.
It should be noted that on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif spoke by telephone with his Cuban counterpart and rejected any foreign interference in Cuba's internal affairs.
Earlier, following protests in some Cuban cities and US interference, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh condemned US interference in the recent Cuban protests and called for an immediate end of Unilateral US sanctions which were imposed on the country.
In another part of his speech, Majid Takht-e Ravanchi condemned the continuation of US actions against members of the Non-Aligned Movement and the violation of international rules and the UN Charter, saying that the United States has imposed various sanctions on some NAM countries for decades. Even in tragic circumstances, the corona outbreak has imposed devastating acts and hardships on them. The United States has accelerated this process by imposing severe trade sanctions, financial restrictions, asset freezes, travel bans, and other measures aimed at undermining the will and independence of nations, most notably in the case of Iran.
Takhte-Ravanchi concluded by emphasizing the need to find better ways to take decisive action against US pressure on others.
