According to the Congressional Research Service, the Politico website has already quoted two US officials as saying that dozens and perhaps hundreds of personal gifts that were previously kept in the State Department's treasury have now disappeared.
According to the report, the US Secretary of State has begun an investigation into the disappearance of these gifts.
Most of the missing gifts are gifts that the United States intended to give to other countries, officials said.
