Joint Meeting of IRGC and Basij Commanders with Medical Officials to Prevent Covid-19 Pandemic

Friday, 13 August 2021 (YJC)_IRGC and Basij Commanders participated in a joint meeting with the heads of Iran's medical sciences universities to stop further spread of coronavirus in the country.

Joint Meeting of IRGC and Basij Commanders with Medical Officials to Prevent Covid-19 PandemicIn a joint meeting which was held with the aim of preventing further spread of Coronavirus in Iran, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Hossein Salami, Basij Commander Brigadier General Gholamreza Soleimani and other IRGC commanders participated to consult their opinions with the the heads of Iran's medical sciences universities.

Addressing the virtual meeting General Hossein Salami said “The recent Supreme Leader’s remarks set the agenda for a national jihad against Coronavirus, do not hesitate about extending any kind of help needed.”

He went on to add that “What we need today is a jihad and revolution; we should eradicate the virus in great jihad.”

He appreciated the medical staff for their hard work to treat the coronavirus patients, and called for cooperation with them to contain the disease's outbreak.

For his part, Deputy Commander of the Iranian Army for Coordination Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari referred to the Supreme leader’s remarks and considered the need for immediate control of the coronavirus disease and cooperation with the civil sector.

He said “14 orders were communicated to the Ground, Air Defense, Air and Naval forces,” an added that “among the orders communicated to the forces were the maximum increase in beds and wards of 6 hospitals in Tehran and 30 Army hospitals in other cities.”

The supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged the military to help the health authorities to step up the vaccination campaign and to make sure the standard operating procedures of COVID-19 are respected by the people.

Previously, amid surge in the country’s reported COVID-19 deaths, Iran’s new President Seyed Ebrahim Rayeesi has ordered the foreign ministry and health officials to accelerate imports and injection of coronavirus vaccine.

Moreover, In line with the Leader's order for stepped-up vaccination and boosted fight against the COVID-19, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri ordered all his forces to assist the health ministry to treat patients.
