Wednesday, 18 August 2021 (YJC)_ Iranian Health Minister said that the sanctions imposed by the US against Iran are a major hurdle to the attempts the country made to import drugs and medical equipment during the outbreak.

Iranian Health Minister: US Sanctions Big Hurdle to Import Drugs to IranDuring his remarks on Wednesday, Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki said the cruel sanctions imposed by US administration against Iran are a major hurdle to the attempts the country made to import drugs and medical equipment, especially during the outbreak.

“In spite of all the lies the US regime officials said in which they claim that embargos do not affect the medical sector, the US sanctions have created a big hurdle to the supply of medicine and medical equipment in Iran," Namaki said.

Iranian health minister went on to praise increased capacity of hospitals and clinics to treat the coronavirus patients in Iran in the past 2 years, and added “The ICU beds have doubled in this period of time and 1,500 oxygen generator machines have also been sent to the medical centers."

Iran has seen a major surge in the number of coronavirus deaths and infections in recent days as the Delta variant of the virus continues to spread across the country.

Previously, Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi stressed the necessity for providing millions more jabs to give immunity to the society and announced that the country is going to import 30mln doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Moreover, Last week, In line with the Leader's order for stepped-up vaccination and boosted fight against the COVID-19, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri ordered all his forces to assist the health ministry to treat patients.

Previously, the supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged the military to help the health authorities to step up the vaccination campaign and to make sure the standard operating procedures of COVID-19 are respected by the people.
