Tehran, YJC. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi arrived in Tehran early Tuesday.

Abadi was greeted by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister in Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdullahian upon arrival.

The Iraqi leader is heading a political-economical delegation to Iran.

In his one-day trip, Abadi is scheduled to meet Iran’s First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri, President Hassan Rouhani, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, and a number of other officials.

This makes Abadi’s first official visit to Iran.

The Iraqi prime minister office said in a statement on Sunday "Haidar al-Abadi’s Trip to Iran follows attempts to coalesce regional and international efforts to help Iraq in its fight against ISIL,” adding "The Iraqi PM’s trip to Iran will last one day.”
