US Deputy Treasury Secretary Edimo said in a statement:
On International Human Rights Day, the Treasury Department uses its tools to prosecute perpetrators of serious human rights violations.
The US Treasury Department also added China's artificial intelligence group Sensetime to its list of banned companies.
The US Treasury Department claimed that the Chinese company had developed a face recognition program that could identify different ethnicities, especially Uighurs.
The new US sanctions also include the names of two Chinese officials. The US Treasury Department claims that the two officials took action against the Uighur minority while in office.
