White House spokeswoman Jennifer Sackey told a news conference Thursday that Washington was evaluating the attacks on US bases in Iraq and Syria and could not yet attribute the attacks to a specific group.
A White House spokesman said in response to a reporter's question about the escalation of attacks on US bases in Iraq and Syria: "We have not formally attributed these attacks to specific groups or groups that may be responsible. "We have no new information in this regard."
She continued by referring to the remarks of the Pentagon spokesman yesterday:
My colleague John Kirby from the Ministry of Defense said yesterday that these kinds of attacks are very similar to the attacks we have seen in recent months and that their trend is increasing.
A White House spokesman went on to accuse "Iranian-backed militants" of being involved in the attacks.
But we do not yet have that much detail at this point as to which group or groups [the recent attacks] were carried out.
A White House spokesman said he could not comment on the motives behind the attacks, but said they were related to the second anniversary of the assassination of General Soleimani or the Vienna talks.
She said:
We can not say exactly who caused these attacks and why they increased. It is quite possible that they are related to the negotiations in Vienna or the anniversary of the attack on Soleimani. But again, we are currently assessing the attribution of these attacks and their objectives. So we do not have further analysis at this time.
