Thursday, 3 March 2022 (YJC)_ In a telephone conversation with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Foreign Minister announced the readiness of the Red Crescent of the Islamic Republic of Iran to help the victims of the Ukraine crisis.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and the Chairman of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer, spoke by telephone about the latest humanitarian situation in the Ukrainian border areas, the humanitarian situation in Yemen and Afghanistan and They talked and exchanged views.
In this telephone conversation, Amir-Abdollahian, while thanking Maurer's efforts, stressed the need to pursue a political solution to resolve the crisis in Ukraine and added:
War is not the solution. From the first hours of the crisis, the Islamic Republic of Iran began its efforts to support Iranian citizens and address their situation in crisis areas, and formed a special committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to accelerate the improvement of the humanitarian situation.
Announcing the readiness of the Red Crescent of the Islamic Republic of Iran to help the victims of this crisis, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country called for the cooperation of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross in this regard.
Amir-Abdollahian also described the humanitarian situation in Yemen and Afghanistan as difficult, and stressed the need to send humanitarian aid to these areas and reduce the suffering of the people in these countries.
Peter Maurer, Chairman of the International Committee of the Red Cross, while expressing satisfaction with the talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country, emphasized his consultations with Russian and Ukrainian officials on sending humanitarian aid, exchanging killed soldiers and access to prisoners of war:
The situation in Ukraine remains difficult and critical.
While welcoming the cooperation of the Red Crescent of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Red Cross, Maurer emphasized the sending of humanitarian aid to Yemen and Afghanistan and thanked the aid of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the people of Afghanistan, especially the hosting of Afghan refugees.
In the end, it was agreed that the Red Crescent medical aid teams of the Islamic Republic of Iran would be stationed next to the Red Cross to help the displaced in the border areas of Ukraine.
