Thursday, 17 March 2022 (YJC)_ "Tashkent believes that military operations in Ukraine should be stopped immediately and that the conflict should be resolved through political and diplomatic means," the Uzbek foreign minister said.
Answering questions from senators about the situation in Ukraine, Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov said at the 24th session of the Senate:
Tashkent believes that military operations in Ukraine should be stopped immediately and that the conflict should be resolved through political and diplomatic means. Uzbekistan recognizes Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Uzbek Foreign Minister stressed:
We have not recognized the People's Republics of Lugansk and Donetsk.
He added:
First, Uzbekistan is seriously concerned about the situation in Ukraine. Secondly, we are in favor of finding a peaceful solution to this situation and resolving the conflicts through political and diplomatic means. But in the first step, military operations, violence must stop immediately.
Kamelov noted:
Uzbekistan has historically had comprehensive traditional relations with both Russia and Ukraine. We will continue to work mutually beneficially with these two countries based on our national interests. On the one hand, Russia is Uzbekistan's leading trading partner. We have a strategic partnership and alliance with it. On the other hand, we cooperate with Ukraine in many fields, including trade, economy, culture, education and agriculture.
