Greece: Sanctions are aimed at overthrowing the Russian regimeA Greek diplomat has stated that the aim of the sanctions imposed on Russia after the military operation in Ukraine is to change the regime in Moscow.

Greece's senior diplomat Varvitsiotis Miltiadis praised US President Joe Biden for coordinating Western positions on sanctions against Russia, saying that Turkey's non-compliance with the sanctions would undermine global efforts to punish Russia.

He said:
If we do not involve Turkey in these sanctions, Russia will not feel heavy pressure because of these sanctions.

Russia ordered a military strike on Ukraine on Thursday morning (February 24th). This development came days after Moscow formally recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics in eastern Ukraine.

Russia says Ukraine has not fulfilled its obligations under the Minsk agreements reached in 2014 and 2015 to resolve the dispute between separatists and Kiev. Vladimir Putin says Russia's military operation is aimed at "demilitarizing Ukraine" and "de-Naziizing" the country.
