Tehran, YJC. The Nowruz holidays are special occasion for the Iranian to catch up on those whom they have not had time to see for a long time.
The main activity during the New Year holiday is
visiting folks. Having set all things at home in order, people get dressed in
their new clothing every day and visit relatives.
The process usually begins with the closest relatives.
Parents usually take children to visit their grandparents, then aunts and
uncles.
Some also visit nursery homes and socialize with the
elderly there, taking them out of their loneliness for the New Year.
An interesting tradition in the visits is giving each
other gifts in the form of cash which is called "Eidi”. It is usually the
elderly and the host who give this gift to children.
This makes the New Year a favorite of the young,
especially as they go visit grandparents, uncles, and aunts, from who they
usually receive the biggest Elides.
