Taiwanese officials announced today (Thursday) that they have abandoned plans to purchase new advanced anti-submarine combat helicopters from the United States because they offer the equipment too expensively.
According to Reuters, Taiwan had previously announced plans to purchase 12 Lockheed Martin Lockheed Martin Skorsky units, but local Taiwanese media reported that the United States was willing to sell the helicopters. He did not come to Taiwan because he did not consider it in line with the needs of the island.
Taiwan's Defense Minister Cheo Keo Cheng said in response to questions from lawmakers about recent changes in Taiwan's purchase of new US weapons:
The price is very expensive and is beyond the ability of our country.
According to the report, two other arms purchases have been delayed by Taiwan, or the Howitzer M109E6 artillery system and Stinger mobile anti-aircraft missiles.
