Monday, 16 May 2022 (YJC)_ Acknowledging that Belarusian forces have not been directly involved since the start of the war in Ukraine, the British military intelligence service said that British territory had been used to advance Russian forces.

London: Belarus has not yet been directly involved in the Ukraine warDespite Western speculation that Belarus was involved in Russian military operations against Ukraine, London acknowledged that Belarussian forces were not involved in the conflict.

The British Army Intelligence Service claimed today (Monday):
Following the exercise earlier this month, Belarus announced the deployment of special operations forces along the Ukrainian border, as well as air, artillery and missile defense units in training fields in the west of the country.

According to the organization's website, the statement claims:
The presence of Belarusian forces near the border is likely to prove Ukrainian forces in the area, so they will not be able to deploy in Donbas to support the operation [against Russia].

The British Ministry of Defense acknowledged in its report:
To date, Belarusian forces have not been directly involved in the conflict [Russia and Ukraine], despite initial speculation.

The military intelligence agency also assessed:
However, Belarusian territory was used as a base for Russia's initial advance in the Kiev and Chernihiv regions. Russia has also carried out air and missile strikes from Belarus.

London concluded:
[Alexander] Lukashenko, President of Belarus, is likely to balance support for the Russian invasion with a desire to avoid direct military action because of the threat of Western sanctions, retaliatory measures by Ukraine, and possible dissatisfaction with the Belarusian military.
