Tehran, YJC. Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani denounced as “fake” the US-led coalition pretending to fight the ISIL group in Iraq and Syria.
"The current coalition against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is fabricated and ineffective,” Larijani said in a meeting with Muhammad Nasr, a key figure of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, and a Palestinian delegation which accompanied him to Tehran on Tuesday.
"The western powers are seeking other illegitimate goals in the region under the guise of fighting the ISIL group,” the Majlis speaker added.
The US-led coalition began targeting positions held by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists in Iraq in August. The coalition has also been conducting airstrikes against ISIL positions inside Syria, but with no authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate.
The Majlis speaker further noted that acts carried out by extremist and terrorist groups in the region, plotted by hegemonic powers and conducted with the support of certain regional countries, are a pretext for intervention in the region and harming Muslims.
Larijani also promised that the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its support for Palestinian resistance movements, adding that the Palestinian nation will emerge triumphant from the fight against Israel despite attempts by supporters of Israel around the world.
