Tehran, YJC. FM Zarif has announced Turkish President’s upcoming trip to Iran at a joint press conference on Wednesday in Tehran with Turkish counterpart.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif pointed to the strong bonds between Tehran and Ankara, adding "the meetings between high-ranking officials of the 2 countries have searched for some important objectives in political and economic spheres and current developments in the region. Reaching a trade balance of $30bn and forming a joint supreme council which is to be headed by both presidents is an indicator of good relations between Iran and Turkey,” Zarif told media.

"Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is to travel to Iran in January to take part in the 2nd meeting of the joint supreme council,” stated Zarif, pointing to Rouhani’s previous visit to Ankara for the first meeting.

"There were some small issues in our mutual ties which can be easily resolved through understanding,” added Zarif, expressing hope for a settlement on Iranian and Turkish truck movements on both sides of the border.

Providing comments on developments in the region, he stated that "Tehran and Ankara see eye to eye on most issues; although some certain differences exist, we need to bring our views closer against a common enemy, thus to try to prevent terrorists from entering Turkey and Iraq.”
