"Iran has always stood by the Iraqi government and its people in difficult situations when the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group was threatening Arbil and Baghdad, and this is something which is worthy of appreciation,” said Masoud Barzani in a meeting with Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani in Arbil on Friday.
Pointing to numerous commonalities between the people of the Iraqi Kurdish region and Iranian provincials, Barzani stated that the two sides are in desirable relations, something that is going to be expanded in the future.
Larijani, for his part, described the Middle East’s prevalent circumstances as sensitive and dire, calling on all regional states to "feel responsible” in regard to the regional crises.
Larijani had arrived in Iraq early Tuesday to do the third and last part of a regional tour. Beisdes Barzani, he also met with some top officials, including former Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, and also Deputy Leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Barham Salih.
