Tehran, YJC. Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu met his Iranian counterpart Hossein Dehqan on Tuesday in Tehran.
In this meeting, the Iranian and Russian sides agreed to
settle the issue of S300 missile systems which has been going on for some time.
Moscow has failed tomake good onan $800 million
contract forthe delivery offive S-300 air-defense systems to Iran.
The Iranian minister speaking to his Russian counterpart,
urged the two countries to boost their mutual cooperation as the two share
views on regional and international affairs.
Dehqan asserted that Iran will continue to fight terrorism
as he strongly condemned a recent Israeli airstrike on Golan Heights which
killed a number of top Hezbolalh members, including Jihad, son of late Imad
Mughniyah, and an Iranian military official.
He said that the event follows Israel’s support of Takfiri
terrorism as a way to disrupt regional peace.
The Iranian defense minister called for cooperation with Russia
to counter US intervention with the region’s independent countries.
The Russian defense minister in turn asserted that his
country welcomes relations with Iran as a way to strengthen regional security.
Shoigu further noted that by signing a prospective contract
during his visit to Tehran, Iran and Russia will engage in more active military
cooperation.
