Shamkhali says sanctions are unjust, illegal, ineffective

Tehran, YJC. Shamkhani criticized unilateral sanctions imposed against Iran as unjust, illegal and ineffective, speaking on Monday.

Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, made the remarks in a ceremony of delivering Damavand, an Iranian made indigenous training destroyer, to the north naval fleet in the Caspian Sea port of Anzali in northern Iran.


He stated that removal of all sanctions is the only way for reaching a nuclear deal based on mutual benefit.

Iran plays a pivotal role in maintaining security, over energy security in particular, in Caspian Sea region, he added.

The new modern indigenous training destroyer joined the Iranian naval fleet of north in a ceremony in Anzali.

Several high-ranking military officials including Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari attended the ceremony.

Damavand is Iran's first destroyer to be used in the Caspian Sea.

By slipping Damavand into the Caspian Sea, Iran has become the second littoral country to have a destroyer in the water, following Russia.
