Iran calls for restraint in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
"Iran invites the two northern neighbors to keep restraint. It recommends the involved sides to do their utmost to return peace and settle disagreements peacefully through dialogue and negotiations,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi.

He further expressed hope that international mechanisms and organizations responsible for settlement of the conflict do their job in ending the clashes.

Qassemi said that Iran is ready to work with the two sides to establish peace and security in this region.

Nagorno-Karabakh has been under the control of Armenian military and separatists since a war between Armenia and Azerbaijan ended in 1994. Years of negotiations have brought little progress in resolving the dispute.

Fighting on Saturday marked the worst clashes since 1994, said David Babayan, spokesman for the region's separatist president.
