Iran and Iraq stressed bilateral cooperation on human rights.
In a meeting between Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi and Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari on the sidelines of the 34th UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, Araqchi touched on Tehran-Baghdad preliminary negotiations on human rights and called for improving the bilateral negotiations with the aim of cooperation and consultation in international organizations.
It is necessary for Iran, Iraq and other countries to confront instrumental use of human rights, since certain countries have adopted this strategy, he added.
"In case this wrong approach continues, its effect will overshadow developing and independent countries,” he said.
Araqchi also urged serious and effective battle against all aspects of terrorism.
Ibrahim al-Jaafari, for his part, appreciated Iran’s efforts and help to battle the ISIL in Iraq and stressed his country’s resolve to uproot terrorism across Iraq.
He also welcomed bilateral talks between Tehran and Baghdad on human rights.
