Tehran, the President has delivered an act to the Majlis for Iran to join the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia with intentions to build the country a protective screen in economic relations.
The preface to the act reads "Since Iran’s close relations
with regional organizations can contribute to the Development Council programs
and build a security umbrella in foreign economic relations, and considering
the flourishing importance of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN) in political and economic dealings of the Asian region as well as the
world, and because any cooperation with the aforementioned association
necessitates the Amity Treaty with the organization mentioned, the act of ‘Joining
Iran to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia’ will be
presented to the Majlis for legal procedures.”
