Iran’s First VP stresses Tehran-Baku cooperation to fight terrorism

TEHRAN, October 20 - Iranian First Vice-President Esha’q Jahangiri stressed further cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan to provide regional security and confront extremist and terrorist groups.

Iran’s First VP stresses Tehran-Baku cooperation to fight terrorismTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “The two countries should work more closely in the fragile region to establish security and deal with extremist and terrorist groups,” he said in a meeting with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev in Istanbul.

Jahangiri arrived in Turkey on Thursday to take part in D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation Summit.

He expressed hope that Iran-Azerbaijan-Turkey upcoming trilateral meeting could remove barriers to developing cooperation.

Ilham Aliyev, for his part, said the two countries enjoy similar views on boosting bilateral ties and confronting extremism and terrorism, stressing that security forces of the two countries should work more closely to deal with the issue.

He also said Rasht-Astara-Baku railroad could make an important development in regional ties and Ukraine and Poland are willing to use the plan for exports to Iran and Persian Gulf region.

Trilateral cooperation between Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkey could help provide security and economic development, he said.
