No foreign military to be deployed in Caspian Sea, says Zarif

TEHRAN, December 4 - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said that no foreign military would be deployed in Caspian Sea following an agreement by the sea neighbors.

No foreign military to be deployed in Caspian Sea, says ZarifTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “Based on an agreement, no foreign military can be deployed in the sea,” he told reporters in Moscow, referring to talks held on Caspian Sea convention among five littoral states of the sea.

“The five countries also agreed to use flags of the five countries in shipping issues,” he said.

Foreign ministers of Iran, Turkmenistan, Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are taking part in the 7th Caspian Sea littoral states meeting underway in Moscow.

Good progress has been made on Caspian Sea legal regime’s convention so far, he said, adding 12 agreements have been agreed upon besides the convention, Zarif continued.

He noted that the five countries also reached agreements on environmental cooperation.

The meeting mainly focuses on articles of Caspian Sea legal regime convention draft, ways to finalize the convention and evaluate documents to be signed in a meeting by presidents of the five countries scheduled to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
