TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said Sunday that huge turnout of Iranian people in revolution anniversary's demonstrations disappointed the country's enemies.
Shamkhani who was participating in the rallies to mark the 39th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Tehran, told reporters that popular support is the main factor of Iran's authority and security.
'Millions of people going to the streets in the cities and towns all over Iran showed their support for the late Imam's [Khomeini] causes and a 'big yes' to the supreme leader [Ayatoollah Seyyed Ali Khameni].'
Responding to the claims by the US officials, and their endorsement of the rioters in recent incidents, Shamkhani said, 'The people, though demanding and criticizing, are the same people who are steadfast in defending their territorial integrity and independence, and do not let foreigners to decide on their behalf.'
The day of Imam Khomeini's return to Iran from exile (Feb 1, 1979) marks the beginning of the Ten-Day Dawn in ceremonies which culminate with the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution on February 11, 1979.
Iranian people toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime 39 years ago, ending 2,500 years of absolute monarchy in the country.
