He said Petronas has signed a deal with Iran on 300.000 oil barrels after Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with P5+1.

Rustam Bin Yahaya continued there are many investment opportunities in Iran, adding Malaysian companies including Petronas operating in oil and gas fields have proposed plans for development and cooperation with Iran and the talks are underway.

He said the volume of commercial exchanges between Iran and Malaysia surged by 40 and the amount of tourism interactions jumped by 30 percent after lifting sanctions on Iran.

Iran and the P5+1 countries — namely the US, Russia, China, France, Britain, and Germany — finalized the nuclear accord, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in July 2015 and started implementing it in January 2016.

Under the deal, Iran undertook to apply certain limits to its nuclear program in exchange for the termination of all nuclear-related sanctions against Tehran.
