TEHRAN, YJC. The Egyptian Minister of Tourism has said that the country is receptive to tourists and cannot send tourists to Iran.
Hisham Zazou in the sidelines of a contract between Egypt and Iran provided comments that Egypt enjoys many touristic interesting sites for attracting Iranian tourists and said "Statistics show that 1.5 million tourists from Iran visit Turkey as well as Persian Gulf, and European coutnires.”
He added "Egypt enjoys good infrastructure and superstructure in tourism and we hope to attract Iranian tourists to our country. 12 percent of Egypt's national revenu comes from tourism.”
Zazou pointed to Iran's unilateral removal of visa needed for Egyptian tourist and said "Egypt cannot do the same for Iranian tourists since based on the country's rules, visa is needed for people from all over the world and it cannot be that we should have visas for some and not for others.”
He also said that one cannot expect Egyptian tourists to visit Iran in the near future.
