TEHRAN, May 07 - The US Congress now simply rubberstamps anything that the president does because power has long since been usurped by the executive branch, a former US Senate policy adviser and diplomat says.

US Congress simply rubberstamps anything that president does: Ex-US Senate policy adviserTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Former Republican congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul said recently that Democrats talk of impeaching US President Donald Trump but would never impeach him over launching war against Venezuela because “Democrats and Republicans both love illegal US wars.”

Dr. Paul wrote in an article published by his own website that President Trump “has no Constitutional authority to start a war with Venezuela or any other country that has not attacked or credibly threatened the United States without Congressional approval. It is that simple.”

James George Jatras told Press TV in an interview on Tuesday that “Congressman Paul is absolutely correct when he says that Trump will never be impeached for launching a war against Venezuela and Iran or any other country even though the Constitution grants the war power to Congress rather than to the president. That power has long since been usurped by the executive branch, and Congress simply rubberstamps anything that the president does.”

“The fact of the matter is that even if Congress did get involved, it would probably won’t make any difference because the war fever in Congress and believing all of the lies that lead us into these wars are least strong in Congress than they are in the executive branch,” he stated.

“And if for example we look at Venezuela and Iran that and hostile towards Russia, China and many other countries, you have this fanatical hatred coming out from both parties in Congress which only points in one direction. That’s not a good direction,” the analyst noted.
