TEHRAN, May 19, YJC - Iran’s election office extended voting hours for presidential election by 8:00 pm (two hours) local time.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -
The office issued a statement saying that extending the time of voting came as certain electoral districts called for extending the voting hours and following approval of Interior Minister Abdul-Reza Rahmani-Fazli.
It also includes pulling stations abroad. The election office also extended voting hours for City and Village Councils by 7:00 pm local time (one hour).
On Friday, Iranians are taking part in presidential elections and voting to choose members of the country’s City and Village Councils.
Some 63,500 polling stations opened at 08:00 local time (0330 GMT) Friday for long lines which had already formed around the country where more than 56 million are eligible to vote.
Polls close at 18:00 (1330 GMT), but voting hours will most likely be extended as the country has seen in previous elections, amid expectations of a high turnout.
